ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava, a leading Czech rail freight operator and a member of the refining and petrochemical ORLEN Unipetrol Group, is implementing the state-of-the-art train navigation solution NavTrain for its engine drivers. With this move, the company will get closer to implementing its safety strategy, facilitate the engine drivers’ work and make it more pleasant for them with an innovative navigation system developed by Betrian.
The NavTrain application provides engine drivers with detailed information about the track, operational restrictions, the train’s current position, and expected arrival times. The main benefits include the ability to display information by the train’s current position online compared to the previous offline solutions, which only depended on the engine driver. It is another step to increase railway safety and improve track orientation.
“For our company and engine drivers, deploying the NavTrain system is a significant move forward. Increased information services for engine drivers will contribute to safer and more efficient railway transport, which is part of our long-term goals,” says Jaroslav Dvořák, executive director of ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava. He adds, “We look forward to NavTrain’s positive impacts on our colleagues during their everyday work.”
Previously, an engine driver had to manually switch between various track sections in offline tables of track conditions, which required constant opening and closing of files, depending on the train’s position. The NavTrain application automatically provides important notifications such as about an upcoming non- electrified section that requires adapting the drive, etc.
Implementing the NavTrain system is part of ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava’s broader strategy to increase the quality and safety of its services. The company is deploying the system this summer.
For Betrian, it is another significant customer expanding the portfolio of satisfied clients.
“We are proud to be part of railway transport’s modernisation in the Czech Republic. The collaboration with a significant Czech carrier, ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava, is another milestone for us,” says Petr Sec, director of Betrian. He specifies: “NavTrain is designed to meet the strictest safety and efficiency standards. We are pleased that it can also serve engine drivers from ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava.”
